FHE Lesson- I Can Be Reverent

Family Home Evening Lesson
I Can Be Reverent

Opening Song: “Reverently, Quietly” (Children’s Song Book # 26)

Opening Prayer: Daddy

Lesson: Mommy

Reverence Is Love:

Read the words to the song Reverence Is Love

Reverence is more than just quietly sitting:
It’s thinking of Father above,
A feeling I get when I think of His blessings.
I’m rev’rent, for rev’rence is love.
When I’m rev’rent, it shows in my words and my deeds.
The pathway to follow is clear.
And when I am rev’rent, I know in my heart
Heav’nly Father and Jesus are near.

Talk about what the words of this song are saying.

Sing: “Reverence Is Love” (Children’s Song Book # 31)

How can we show our reverence to our Heavenly Father? (Refer to the words of the song and add any other things you can think of and that your child will understand.)
Sitting Quietly
Thinking of Heavenly Father
Thinking of our blessings
Folding our arms
Bowing our heads
Using a quiet voice
Reading books about Jesus
Coloring pictures of Jesus

Activity: Put a “Reverence Packet” together for your child. Gather pictures of Jesus for them to look at, books about Jesus that they can read, and objects that will remind them to be reverent. Print Pictures of Jesus, prayer and reverent things from (Here) or take them from your home Gospel Art Kit. Print coloring pages of Jesus, a child in prayer, the Temple, or other pictures that promote reverent thinking (I like to use Jenny Smith). Or use Jenny Smith’s “Reverence Book” pattern and put this together for your child.

Closing Song: “Reverence” (Children’s Song Book # 27)

Closing Prayer: Mommy
