Lesson
In the beginning of the Book of Mormon who is the first family? Lehi’s Family. They live in Jerusalem. Nephi says his parents are good. He makes a record about what happens to his family. Lehi tells the people to repent and be good. He is a prophet like our prophet today Pres Thomas S Monson. Nephi is writing this all down for us. The plates (show gospel art picture kit pic #325) become The Book of Mormon (show book) and it is about Jesus visiting the people from the Americas (show Gospel Art Picture Kit pic # 316).
Activity
Turn aluminium foil into some “plates” to write on. Take a large piece of foil and fold in half and half again to make a small “book”. Using a pencil, knitting needle, or the like, write onto the “plates/foil”. Small children can draw on the foil, or you could write out 1 Nephi 1:1.

Treat:
Turn square rectangular cookies into Golden Plates. I used Nice and milk cookies (Australian brands). Graham crackers or similar for USA readers. Make yellow icing/frosting and spread over cookies. Decorate to make words or use licorice or fruit straps to make bookmarks. Eat and Enjoy.

This is great idea - I'll definitely be using it!
We used this lesson idea and had the most fun FHE lesson. Our toddlers even buried their plates in the backyard!
